My guardian demon
compiled by Anita Halina Janowska
Correspondence of Andre Tchaikowsky and Halina Janowska 1956-1982 Translated from Polish
As literature, memoir of the post-war world and as the record of unusual ‘love affair’ between two talented artists their letters are a mesmerising read. Andrzej Tchaikowsky (aka ‘The second Tchaikovsky but no relation) was a very talented pianist and since his death has been recognized as perhaps Poland’s greatest post-war composer. It is his donated skull David Tennant held in Hamlet. The title is Andre’s homage to Rimbaud his artistic soul-mate.
